I feel like writing a review II

Fri Jul 10, 2009, 3:22 PM
Ok, it's not really a review just a list of my personal thoughts. For a review it simply lacks objectivity and completeness.
Yay, I probably should not do that so late again, but it's my reward for finishing the comic.

I finally finished Persona 3 FES! Yay! I beat "The answer"!
I read that "FES" stands for "festival", but actually I don't have the slightest clue what is meant by that. There is not really a festival in it that wouldn't have been in Persona 3 as well.
It would make much more sense if "FES" would stand for "fun evolving stuff" or "fun erasing sh**" because these are the two feelings I felt during playing. Either I was very curious what would happen next and couldn't wait to go on. Or I just sat there, cursing leveling and cursing even more the enemies.
Especially for the boss-fights it's not really helpful to concentrate on weaknesses, because they will dodge them almost all the time.

[Ok, now this is where the story-spoilers start. So if you wanna play that game, don't read on]

And the story needs a very long time to get "rolling". I mean everbody who is not completely deaf, blind and stupid at the same time will recognize that it's the main character's silhouette that you are chasing. And still Fuuka keeps on with her "It just feels like..." and "But no, it can't be..." She surely LOVES suspension points.
I mean during the end of the game the "ominous figure" will stand a little longer before it runs away like somebody wants to smack the answer into your face. And she still keeps on "No, it can't be..." and you just wanna shout "BUT IT IS YOU NUMSKULL!! ARE YOU BLIND?!?!?"

I also was kinda confused when Junpei mentioned Chidori's death. I mean, FES gives you the opportunity to save her. But no matter what you do, she's dead in "the answer". So why did they give me the choice at all? It's not like Junpei and Chidori would get together after you saved her. She has forgotten him. Hello? How can she forget DA MAN?

But, say what you want, "The Answer" is definitely a challenge of skills (and your nerves as well). The enemies are much meaner. And the same enemy you beat very easily in 5 fights before will kill you in the 6th by kicking your ass. Like it wants to show you that you really suck. I never managed to kill that "blob" that is strong against EVERYTHING and has about 700 HP. Maybe if you throw almighty attacks like crazy... but then you still have to survive that long.
I absolutely loved the part where you had to fight your team mates. I always wanted to smack Yukari. In "The journey" her strange idea of "heal/support" killed me about 5 times, because she rather used "wind break" instead of "mediarahan" (yeah, that will support a half dead team...) And Ken too. He didn't do such stupid things... but I simply don't like him.

The last boss waits behind a giant door in the desert of doors. Yeah, no tower this time, just doors standing in the desert. I especially love the dark mist that surrounds the "final boss door". When I first saw it, I yelled "Kingdom Hearts is LIGHT!" at my TV. Sadly there was no ray of light coming from that door then... and no Riku behind it *sigh*
Though the boss fights were really hard (as I mentioned before), I beat Erebus very easily. If you have "Makarakarn" you can just keep it up and he... she... it will take away a big part of his own health bar. (Is it just me or does that thing kinda look like the golem things from "Castle in the sky"?)
No big deal. Still I was not disappointed. After I had so many frustrating boss fights it was really nice to have something that worked at the first try.

Last but not least.
The very BEST about the game: the happy ending.
I mean it's most obviously a Japanese RPG AND it still has a happy ending! No one's dead (at least nobody who wasn't dead before) and you finally feel relieved because you have the reason for the Journey-ending. EPIC WIN!
I also love the ending song. So I'd say it's a pretty good game and even if you already have Persona 3, you won't be sorry if you buy FES as well. At least I am not.

Still I am happy that it's over. I finally finished the game... and now I need something colorful. I love the SMT games, but they are all a little gloomy. My next game will be like a sparkling, twinkling drug-rainbow... maybe FFX-2? I haven't decided yet.

More to come soon. Have a nice weekend!
(And since it's weekend I won't search for typos, hah!)
